Our Weekend Trip

This weekend we went to Juan's Gramdma's house. It's about a 3 hour trip to the small town where they live and it is the first time we've been there since Corbin was born. We had a lot of fun. Two of Juan's aunt's live on the same street and one of his cousins was visiting so we got to see a lot of family.

They were celebrating one of his cousin's 10th birthday and had rented a waterslide for the occasion. Jovi was in heaven!

Juan's cousin who was visiting has a little girl only a month older that Corbin. It was fun watching Corbin play with his second cousin.

While we were there, they started counting up how many great grandchildren his grandma had and the number came out to be 40+ with a chance of becomming a great, great grandma sometime in the next 5-10 years since she has a couple great grandchildren in the 18 year old range. Isn't that amazing? The kids actually did ok for the drive. There were only a few bouts of crying and one necessary stop, not bad if I do say so myself!

Likes and Dislikes

As I was putting Corbin to sleep tonight I was thinking about my kids and their personalities, all the things they like and dislike. I was making a list in my head and thought that it would be fun to write it down so here it is...
Jovi
Likes, playing with friends, candy, swimming, cutting paper, her family, apples, umbrellas and playing in the rain, pizza, Curious George, Disney Princesses, pineapple, strawberries, playing tea party, Walmart, dressing up and dancing to the Lion King sound track, playing cars with her dad, reading books, going places, cheeseburgers, painting, feeding her fish, flying kites, going on walks, Ganna's house, Chuck E Cheese, bean burritos with beans, "fixing things" with her tools
Dislikes, BUGS, carrots, bedtime, waiting, parrots, Land Before Time,

Corbin
Likes, nursing, mommy, being held, sweet potatos, going on walks, crawling on Jovi's couch, chewing on paper, drinking from a straw, pulling up on things, Jovi's hair
Dislikes, apples, not being picked up when he wants to be, being alone, Jovi laying on him, riding in the car

It's not a complete list, but it is what I can think of right now.

Finishing Projects (picture HEAVY)

I have been working hard to finish up quite a few projects so that I could be project free when we start preschool next week. My sister in law owns a cleaning business and asked me to embroider some bags for her with her business's name on it. Well, after some trouble with embroidering directly onto the ready made bag (bought at Target), I decided to make patches and then hand sewed them onto the bags. Each bag ended up having three patches. Here are some pictures:

Then I was working on making a diaper bag for my good friend who I've known since I was 3 years old. She is having her first baby in September and they decided to be surprised about whether it was a boy or girl so I tried for something fairly neutral. I made a diaper bag, teething toy and matching zippered bag. It was my first zipper ever and it took two tries to get it right. I think it ended up ok and after all, it isn't a real project if you don't have to use your seam ripper at some point, right?

Then I was asked to teach an intro to sewing class on Sept. 9th for Relief Society Super Saturday. Our project will be a reversible tote so I made a sample for Sunday. Here is a picture of both sides of the reversible tote bag.

And last but not least, I wanted to make something special for Jovi to start preschool with so I made a lunch bag for her. I was inspired by this bag I found on Etsy (my new time wasting addiction) http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=10072014 . I really like how it turned out. It is made out of fleece except for the black of the eyes which are wool felt.

The kids are doing great. Corbin is getting better at crawling and his appetite has come back full force. I feel sure he will be making up the weight he lost while being sick very quickly. Jovi is doing great. We went and saw two boys be baptized today and now she wants to get baptized and she kept saying that she wanted to see the Holy Ghost; we kept trying to explain that you can't see him, only feel him, but it's a pretty big concept to grasp. At least she knows Jesus loves her and that she loves Jesus and that Jesus is a boy. She tells me that all the time :). Here is a picture of her from yesterday just because she is so cute!

It's Time...

For a new post! I've been putting it off hoping to complete two projects that I've been working on (i have NOT forgotten about you Mari and Alice), but it looks like they won't be done till the end of the weekend and I really want to keep up with my goal of at least one post a week. While completed projects have been a bit scarce, I did finish 4 pillowcases at Juan's request.

Much more interesting than a few pillowcases is what the kids have been doing. Corbin has been recovering pretty well from the pneumonia and he has started crawling. Really crawing, with coordinated hand and leg movements and everything. He started doing it on Monday. Here is a picture I took on Tuesday.

And, a few minutes after I took that picture I found him pulling up on Jovi's couch.
I didn't grab the camera fast enough to get a fully standing picture, but you get the idea. Jovi was so proud of her brother.

That same day I got out a patterning toy and showed Jovi how to play with it. She can name all her colors and most of her shapes and was very good at matching the pictures on the card with the shapes.

Today I found Corbin playing with the doorstop in the hallway. He was very interested in making it go TWWWWANG. I think that every child enjoys playing with those things, Jovi does and I remember doing the same thing when I was a kid too.

Pneumonia :(

Corbin has pneumonia :(. I posted on Sunday about how he seemed to be getting over a cold. Well, Sunday and Monday were his best days. After that his cough got worse and he started running a high fever Tuesday night. I took him to the doctor yesterday and the doctor said he had an ear infection and he was weezing so she sent him to get a chest xray. It showed pneumonia in his upper left lung. We had to go back up to the doctor where he got an antobiotic shot and was perscribed two more antobiotics that he will start today. On the plus side, it seems to be working. His fever broke last night and he is acting much more like himself. I am hopeful that when we go back in two weeks for another xray that it will be nice and clear.

Yesterday, after all the doctor's vists, I started thinking about how blessed we are to live in a time when doctors and medicine are available. Less than 100 years ago Corbin might have easily died from this. I am so greatful that Corbin will most likely be 100% better in only a week or two.

On a happier note, Carrie Anderson and I are going to be starting a preschool for our daughters and a few others in a few weeks. We are working on lesson plans right now. I'm really excited, I think it should be a lot of fun.

Sunday Post

Corbin was sick with a cold on Thursday and Friday, but he is doing much better today. He just has a lingering cough and runny nose now, but he is obviously feeling better. Jovi went to a friend's thrid birthday party on Friday and had lots of fun. We went to a church ice cream social that Juan was partially in charge of on Saturday. It was lots of fun, Jovi had two bowls of ice cream and two popsicles wich was about average for most of the kids. I learned that I like colored sprinkles in my vanilly ice cream, yummy!

To make up for having a post with no pictures last time this will be full of pictures of stuff I made this week. On Wednesday I went to a friend's baby shower. Their family is adopting a one year old little girl (so exciting) so I made this for her.
Photobucket
It is a pillowcase dress with matching bloomers. I plan on making any future little girls we have lots of sets like this. I unfortunately think that Jovi is a little too old for bloomers, but maybe not. I might try it in the future.

On Friday I finished this dress for Jovi that I have been working off and on for over a month.

Overall I am happy with it. The pattern came with sleeves, but they fit really wierd so I took them off and bound the edge instead with self made bias tape. The pattern called for putting a zipper in the back of the dress, but I've never sewn a zipper before and am a little scared of them so I did ribbon ties instead. I had to add some hook and eyes to the back because the ribbons just weren't doing a good enough job of closing the back. I really need to get over my fear of zippers because I'm sure just putting in a zipper would have been easier than what I did.

And finally, because I showed you the wood shapes cut out. Here are some of the shapes sanded, painted and finished. There is wood burned detailing on all of them, but the trees. They were a lot of fun to make. My favorite is the owl.

A quiet week and entered a contest

So, this past week hasn't really been news worthy, not that I'm really complaining. A quite week is a good week. I worked on the wood shapes on Saturday, but they aren't done yet (I'm waiting on a beeswax finish I ordered) so no pictures. Jovi went to nursery without crying this Sunday. I was talking to her teacher a few days before and she said Jovi had the most "energy" of all the kids in nursery. Jovi is one BUSY little girl. Corbin sits up reall well now and has started getting on his hands and knees and rocking. I'm thinking he will start crawling in the next few weeks.

So I found this website http://www.make-baby-stuff.com/index.html that I really like. It has lots of fun tutorials, great ideas and good information. They are having a contest right now about "natural" play spaces. I entered Jovi's kitchen, you can check out my entry here http://www.make-baby-stuff.com/our-play-kitchen.html . I'd really appreciate it if you commented on my entry and rated it. The prizes for the contest are really cool. If you enter, let me know and I'll vote for you too.
